To receive the Homestead Exemption you must:
* Own & occupy the property as your principal residence.
* Have been born in 1945 or before.

If you already have the Senior Homestead Exemption, you no longer have to renew it, but if your 65th birthday is any time during 2010, please stop in at the Assessor’s office and we can fill out the paperwork to get it started. You will need to bring proof of age when you apply. A driver’s license or state ID showing your date of birth is acceptable.

Senior Freeze Exemption:
* This exemption MUST be renewed annually
* You must have owned & occupied the property as your principal residence for 2 consecutive January 1sts.
* The household income must not be more than $55,000 per year and it includes the income of all persons using the property as their principal dwelling place on January 1st of the tax year. The deadline to file for this exemption is July 1, 2010 for the 2010 tax year, payable in 2011.
* If you live anywhere in the City of Rock Island, you can renew your Senior Freeze Exemption at our office.
